Hereford Cattle have been bred by four generations of the Condon Family at Mahitahi with the Flagstaff Stud being established in 1976 by Thomas Condon. The foundation females were both Polled and Horned and this mix has carried on to the present day.
200 females including yearling heifers are mated this season. All surplus heifers are finished to supply ANZCO Foods Aleph Programme along with all commercial cattle bred on the property. The stud herd has been performance recorded since the original introduction of Breedplan to New Zealand. Scanning for carcase traits of both heifers and bulls was started in 1996. |
An annual Bull Sale is held each year on the farm at Mahitahi.
Two of my children, Tom & Catherine, have moved back home to the valley and are leasing the neighbouring farm under the name Flagstaff Cattle. They are supplementing their income by providing dairy grazing as they build up their own Hereford herd. Catherine is married to Simon Montague and they have 2 children, Lucy and Holly. |
